Based is a dating app for people 18 and older. This policy explains what we collect, why, and the choices you have. Questions: support@based-social.com.
What we collect
- Account: your email address, used to sign you in with a one-time code.
- Profile: first name, birthdate (to confirm you're 18+), gender, who you're looking for, interests, and photos.
- Verification selfie: used to check that your photos are really you (see "Photo checks" below).
- Location: your approximate location, used to show people near you. We never show your exact location to others; they only see a distance range.
- Activity: likes, passes, matches, messages, posts, comments, and call records (time, length, who ended it). Calls use your microphone (and camera for video calls) and are never recorded.
- Safety data: reports and blocks you make or receive, and a device identifier used to stop banned users from rejoining.
How we use it
- To run the app: create your account, show you matches and the feed, and deliver messages and calls.
- To match you with people, based on distance, shared interests and how you use the app.
- To keep people safe: check photos, filter contact info before a first call, review reports, and enforce our rules.
- To send you sign-in codes and important account messages.
We don't sell your personal information, and nobody can pay to see more of your data.
Photo checks
When you upload a selfie or photo, it may be analyzed automatically (by Amazon Web Services Rekognition) to confirm it shows one clear face and that your photos show the same person. It may also be checked by a person on our team. The results are used only to verify your profile, not for advertising.
Who we share it with
- Other members see your profile: name, age, photos, interests, and a distance range, but not your email or exact location.
- Service providers that run the app for us: Supabase (database, storage and sign-in), Amazon Web Services (photo checks), LiveKit (voice and video calls), and Resend (email delivery). They may only use your data to provide their service to us.
- Legal reasons: if required by law, or to protect someone's safety.
How long we keep it
We keep your data while your account is open. When you delete your account, your profile, photos, matches, messages and posts are deleted. A device identifier may be kept if an account was banned, to prevent the same person rejoining.
Your choices
- Edit your profile and photos at any time in the app.
- Turn off location access in your phone's settings (Based won't be able to show nearby people without it).
- Delete your account at any time. Here's how.
- Ask for a copy of your data or a correction by emailing support@based-social.com.
Security
Data is encrypted in transit, and access is limited by row-level security so members can only reach what the app allows them to see.
Age
Based is only for people 18 and older. We delete accounts we find belong to anyone younger.
Changes
If we change this policy, we'll update the date above and let you know in the app if the change is significant.
